18 Publishing

Once completed and tested on your emulator the site must be published on the internet for everyone to access. There are two basic way of completing this.

Some dedicated wap site hosts allow active updating of sites directly on their server. Access the site and your own files and simply copy and paste the .wml text file into the corresponding file on the server and save. Image files must still be uploaded onto the server. The host may have an upload facility or an or FTP program may be required.

If active updating is not available, if you use your ISP's web space for example then FTP must be used to upload the files. There are many FTP programs available, some as freeware and some as a feature of the software on your PC. We will not discuss how to use FTP, please refer to the help files with each individual program. The advantage of using FTP is that all files (images and text) can be uploaded together, and the internet connection need only be open during the FTP process.

In all cases you will need the exact address of your web space, your FTP username, and FTP password. These are provided by your ISP.
